And in this course, Chinese OEMs like Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, etc., are leading the industry with millions of 5G handset sales units, as per the latest statistics.
Chinese OEMs Excelling in 5G Phone Sales
The advent of 5G has shown significant improvements over the past generation, luring more and more customers into the new space. Smartphone users especially are considering buying new handsets with 5G support as one of the major considerations. Thus, several OEMs are manufacturing more 5G handsets than the LTE variants to take their consumers to the next level by observing the rise of demand. In this regard, Strategy Analytics’ latest report revealed that Chinese vendors – Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo have together sold over $15 billion worth 5G handsets in Q1 of 2021. Also, there are about seven Chinese OEMs in the top 10 list of 5G sales this year, showing how prominently they’re pacing in this field. The report also says that the 5G revenue of these three vendors alone is almost twice that of LTE in the same span. Also, the sales of LTE handsets may be down to half in Q1 2021 due to their declining demand. While this shows how rapidly both the customers and OEMs are penetrating the 5G space, it also shows how dominant the Chinese batch is. Leading the pack is the South Korean giant – Samsung, with over 77 million sales units in Q1 of 2021. With over 57 million sales, Apple follows it, and Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo respectively in the next positions.
