Leveraging machine learning, the tech should be able to study the external photos taken by your smartphone camera and show up results on possible diseases. Also, there’s yet another project to record the heart sounds using the built-in microphone.
Google’s New Health AI Project
As if Google’s name isn’t much household enough, the company is doing interesting experiments in the health field to be more helpful to users. The Health AI department of Google is known for research on new health projects that aim at protecting cardiovascular health, preserving eyesight, etc., using a smartphone. And now, Google showed up with more typical plans in its second annual “The Check-Up” event. The company announced experimenting with the possibility of detecting diabetes and non-diabetes diseases using a smartphone camera! And this is with the help of machine learning, says Google. The pictures clicked through your smartphone camera should help study the clinical images to detect the diseases. Besides, there’s yet another project that uses the phone’s built-in microphone to record heart sounds. Reading heart heats and murmurs is a critical study done using stethoscopes in physical examination. But, Google tends to use smartphones as the general tool to achieve this. Talking about these projects, Google’s Head of Health AI, Greg Corrado, said; Though these are still in the nascent stage, we expect Google to make them a reality one day, considering the helpful health features it pushed to the Google Fit app. The service can measure your pulse and breath using your smartphone’s camera sensor. Available to only Pixel phones initially, Google said it’s now available to more than 100 Android and iOS devices models.
